Prof. Yassir Abdel Gadir Eltahir Hashim from Gezira University, Sudan, was hosted by the department from 1st November 2022 to 15th November 2022 as a visiting Scholar under sponsorship of ACEII-PTRE. During his stay he conducted research on physical and mechanical properties of fibers extracted from okra bast, held supervision meeting with postgraduate students from Sudan and offered training on use and interpretation of data from DSC and FTIR instruments all available in the department.
A team from Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) visited the department on 24th November 2022 to learn about our Industrial & Textile Engineering programme. The team was led by Dr Patsani Kumambala and other members included Prof. Limbikani Matumba, Dr. Angstone Mlangeni, Mrs. Orpa Kabambe and Ms. Michelle Okwalo - Sande.The main purpose of the visit was to seek support of the Department in setting and developing a Textile Degree Programme at LUANAR.
Dr Jerry Ochola, a senior lecturer in the department, is scheduled to give a public lecture on Computational Modelling of Tubular Fibrous Structures for Cardiovascular Graft Applications. He is currently in Stellenbosch University, South Africa, under STIAS Iso Lomso Fellowship. The lecture was held virtually on Thursday, 22 September 2022 at 17:00.
