The Water Engineering Programme will focus on, among others:

o Urban and regional flood modelling and management;
o Water resources and hydrology;
o Erosion and sedimentation control;
o Rural and small urban water supply and sanitation;
o Water pollution control;
o Irrigation;
o Integrated water resources management.

Objectives of the Programme
(a) Deliver specialised engineers in Water Engineering and Structural Engineering who will strengthen the design and research capacity in the universities, industry and other institutions. This will be achieved by providing advanced theoretical and practical training for design and research in this specialised area of Civil and Structural Engineering.
(b) Enhance applied and theoretical research in Water Engineering.

Structure of the Programme
The MSc programme is structured to offer common core courses, programme required courses and elective courses. The courses of the Programme is distributed over two years as follows:

6 units of core courses

6 units of programme required courses

1 unit of research (thesis)

TOTAL = 13 units

 

5 units of programme required courses

6 units of elective courses

2 units of research (thesis)

TOTAL = 13 units

 II

12 units of research (thesis)

TOTAL = 12 units

 

3 units of elective courses

9 units of research (thesis)

TOTAL = 12 units

In order to graduate, a student must successfully complete at least 50 units having 26 units of coursework and 24 units of thesis distributed over four semesters. A unit is defined variously as follows: 1 unit 1 hour of lecture per week or 2 hours of tutorial per week or 3 hours of practical work per week throughout the semester.

Eligibility
(i) Holders of a first class or upper second-class or lower second-class degree of Moi University in Civil and Structural Engineering.
(ii) Holders of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and recognised by Moi University Senate as equivalent to a first class or upper second class or lower second-class degree of Moi University in Civil and Structural Engineering.
